The ARC 2026 Camps at Straja

In 2026, the Straja mountain resort hosts one of the ARC Camps – the government camp program dedicated to Romanian children and young people everywhere. It is a completely freecamp, organized as part of the "ARC" 2026 Program of the Department for Romanians Everywhere (DPRP), and for us it is the first edition of our collaboration with this program.

Vin copii și tineri români din afara granițelor, iar tabăra se ține în întregime în limba română. Stăm în Munții Vâlcan, la Straja, și programul e făcut ca ei să vorbească românește toată ziua, nu doar la ore.

About the ARC Program

The "ARC" ("Home in Romania") Program is a government program coordinated by the Department for Romanians Everywhere, an institution within the Government of Romania. The program's stated aim is to give Romanian children, pupils, students and young people from the diaspora and the historic communities the chance to discover Romania, to deepen their knowledge of the Romanian language and to come into contact with Romanian cultural and identity values.

The 2026 edition is the 17th edition of the program and offers, at national level, around 9,000 free places, in 8 locations across Romania, in the period 30 June – 1 September 2026. The entire program – accommodation, meals and the educational, cultural, artistic, sporting and recreational activities – is supported by the Romanian state. For Tabere Straja, this edition marks the first collaboration with the ARC Program.

What we do at Straja

At Straja, the program combines adventure in the heart of nature with the discovery of authentic Romanian traditions and with workshops that encourage communication in Romanian and team spirit. Among the experiences the participants have:

Trips and attractions

In addition to the activities in the resort, the children go on trips to some of the most beautiful attractions in the area:

The team that accompanies them

Copiii sunt însoțiți permanent de instructori, profesori, animatori și coordonatori. E aceeași echipă care ține taberele de vară și de iarnă de la Straja.

Who the camp is for

The ARC Camps are aimed at Romanian children and young people from outside Romania's borders – from the diaspora and the historic communities, with the status of "Romanians everywhere" – who have a knowledge of Romanian that allows them to communicate and take part in activities. In line with the "ARC" program, it is aimed at Romanian children, pupils, students and young people everywhere, and the enrollment application is also open to young people who wish to take part as volunteers.

Accommodation and meals

Accommodation is at The Dor de Munte Guesthouse and at neighboring guesthouses, all located in the center of the Straja mountain resort. The conditions are good, in a safe, friendly environment suited to groups of children and young people. As part of the ARC program, accommodation and meals are provided free of charge.

Register

Participation in the ARC 2026 Camps is completely free, being supported by the Romanian state. Straja merely hosts the camp – enrollment is done exclusively on the official platform of the Department for Romanians Everywhere, during the window of 12-26 June 2026. We do not use a form of our own on the site for this camp.

The enrollment procedure is carried out through the diplomatic missions (embassies and consulates), educational institutions, Romanian organizations and associations abroad, as well as through places of worship. The specific sessions and dates of the Straja camp will be announced later.

What do we do?

We conquer mountain peaks, visit caves and waterfalls, learn where to place and how to pitch a tent, which plants are edible, how to build a campfire, prepare some of our own meals or snacks at the guesthouse, on the grill or in a cauldron, test our limits in the adventure park and learn dozens of sports and movement games with teachers and coaches from UNEFS Bucharest.

Educational, cultural and fun activities are ever-present. We have lessons in nutrition, physical education, massage and psychology. We also have fun every evening with karaoke, parties, cabin games, night hikes, films on the projector, and we look back at the photos and footage taken during the day.

The trips within the camps will be to the Straja Resort, to caves and waterfalls in the Retezat mountains, plus other surprise locations.

The aim of the summer camp for adults is to help participants lose weight on their little holiday while feeling good, making friends and gaining confidence in themselves. Losing weight doesn't mean a tasteless, unsatisfying diet. We cook healthy, tasty dishes and portion every meal appropriately.

The mission of the summer camp for adults is to instill healthy lifestyle habits in young people and adults (nutrition, exercise, emotional balance) that they can keep up when they return home.

Tabăra de Aventură pentru Preșcolari 2027

What do we do?

"Tabere Straja changes destinies" – a bold statement that children, parents and instructors alike have made in turn. We all know that positive change happens when we step out of our comfort zone. That's why our program is made up of a wide range of activities, carefully chosen by specialists from different fields: physical-education and sports teachers, mountain rescuers, ski and snowboard instructors, psychologists, nutritionist-dieticians, art, music and dance teachers, doctors and athletes of national and international renown.

From the very first hours of camp, the participants get to know their surroundings: the slopes where they ski in winter, the Heroes' Cross, the adventure parks, the Straja Hermitage, Baloo the bear, the sheepfold, beech and fir forests, and they take in the peaks of over 2500 m, Păpușa and Peleaga.

Children of all ages, arriving from all over the country, get to know each other through games as well as through free conversation. Games have a powerful appeal for children and teenagers and an educational value through their wealth of ideas, by heightening emotions and engaging the intellect and the spirit of organization — that is why they are a core activity in our camps, alongside the adventure park trail and the hikes.

The children's artistic side is developed through stone painting, dance choreography and gymnastics, but also through the nutrition and psychology lessons. In the evening, we enjoy fun activities: a campfire, parties, an open-air film, a talent show and cabin games. We place great emphasis on keeping to the schedule, mutual respect, discipline and hygiene, with the participants being equal in front of the instructors. Of course, safety comes first at Tabere Straja.

The parents take part in some of the activities and trips with the children, but they also have dedicated activities: hot tub, sauna, live music, off-road and more.

Petroșani chalet, with staff experienced in working with groups of athletes, so the food is well chosen and well cooked, the rooms have their own bathrooms, and there are indoor spaces for activities. If needed, 100 meters away, we also turn to the U.N.E.F.S. Bucharest Chalet, both for activity spaces and for accommodation and meals. In about an hour from check-in, you reach the Parângul Mic peak at an altitude of 2074 meters. The panorama this place offers is exceptionally beautiful.

About the Health Camp

The first camp in Romania aimed at children and teenagers with weight problems, but also at those who want a holiday full of experiences. Our approach is multidisciplinary and we have specialists from three fields: nutrition, sport and psychology. Weight loss is controlled and carefully monitored throughout the camp.

Our aim is to help children and teenagers with weight problems achieve a healthy weight and emotional balance in a positive way, gaining self-confidence and new friends.

In Romania, more than 1 in 4 children are overweight or obese, and the number is rising. At the Health Camp, we will not make obesity into a bigger problem than it is, because we know that an ideal weight is not achieved through a tasteless diet, restrictions and going hungry. We know there is no miracle diet, and that is why, over 21 days, our mission is to instill a balanced lifestyle in the children, promoting healthy behaviors and habits that they can keep up when they return home.

We don't want to make losing weight a goal, but a result achieved the right way!

Each year, parents are invited to take part in the last four days of the camp. They follow the same program, but also join activities dedicated to them, such as: meetings, discussions and activities with the psychologist and nutritionist. This way, we encourage adopting a healthy lifestyle as a family and maintaining the results over the long term.

Where do we stay?

The camp price includes transport and entry fees to the tourist attractions visited, all the materials needed to run the activities, as well as other items: T-shirts, individual and framed group photos and certificates.

What do we eat?

The camp menu includes 3 meals and 2 snacks, all healthy, designed and prepared under the guidance of the Nutritionist-Dietician, in line with the energy and nutritional needs specific to the age group and the activities carried out at the camp.
